Venus Williams Announces Debut at Special Event as Preparation for the Wimbledon Championships 2021
Former world number one and seven-time grand slam champion Venus Williams, who has become selective in the tournaments to participate, has decided to play at the first WTA 250 grass-court event of the year at Nottingham, Great Britain.
The Lawn Tennis Association(LTA) recently announced the entry list for the event which is supposed to take place from the 6th of June. Along with Venus, players like Johanna Konta, Donna Vekic, and Belinda Bencic have confirmed their participation at the grass-court event.
Venus has a below-average 2021 season so far
The American tennis legend had retired from her opening round match against Karolina Pliskova at the on-going Italian Open. Right from the start of her career, Venus has always been silent about her injuries and never revealed them until the last moment.
While the reason behind her Italian Open’s withdrawal is yet to be determined, it’s evident that the American is not match-ready yet. In the few tournaments Venus played this year, she has lost in the first-round itself.
However, it’s incredible to see her burning desire to compete at the highest level even after creating several records in tennis history. A five-time Wimbledon Champion, Venus will fancy her chances on grass-courts as the surface suits her playing style.

Also, it will be the American’s first-time appearance at the Nottingham Open. But, the participation of Venus Williams depends on her performance at the French Open this year.
The seven-time grand slam champion has an average record at Roland Garros as she managed to reach the quarter-finals four times in her career so far. Last year at the French Open, Venus was defeated by the Slovakian tennis player Anna Karolina-Schmiedlova in the first round.
Coming back to the Nottingham Open, Venus might play the doubles event as well. Her 2019 grass-court campaign started at yet another WTA 250 event at Birmingham, where she reached the quarter-finals and lost to the eventual champion, Ashleigh Barty.
As a player who likes fast-pacing conditions, Venus Williams will add more value to the tournament owing to her aggressive, all-round game play.
