BTS star Jin says group can continue as a six when he enlists: ‘I’ll be cheering them on’
BTS star Jin says it’s up to the other members to decide whether to carry on a six when he enlists.
The singer, 28, will be one of the first members of the group to carry out his mandatory military service, but following a new law passed in South Korea, ‘globally recognised’ pop stars can postpone it until the age of 30.
Previous rules stated that all able-bodied South Korean men aged between 18 and 28 were required to serve in the military for around two years.
He told Rolling Stone it is possible for the group to continue without him but it is up to his bandmates RM, Suga, Jimin, J-Hope, V and Jungkook.
‘I think the country sort of told me, “You’re doing this well, and we will give you a little bit more time”‘ he said of the law passed in December, and said serving was ‘an important duty for our country’.
On the future of the Fake Love singers as a six, he added: ‘I have no doubt that the other members will make a good decision because, you know, this is not something that I can tell them what to do.
‘I’ll be sad, but I’ll be watching them on the internet and cheering them on.’
The interview comes ahead of the release of new single Butter, which they will perform for the first time at the Billboard Music Awards on May 23.
The Black Swan singers are also up for four awards; top duo/group, top social artist, top song sales artist, and top selling song for Dynamite.
It follows the huge success of their English-language single Dynamite which dominated the charts in the US and broke all kinds of records. The track earned them their first ever Grammy nomination for best pop duo/group performance.
