Google secret tricks – From Flip A Coin and Zerg Rush to Do A Barrel Roll and Askew

EVERYONE knows the guys at Google love a good laugh. From their April Fools’ gags to their ever changing Google Doodle, they are constantly showing off their lighter-side.

But what other special tricks can the search engine do? Here’s how you can have some fun.

What tricks can Google do?

“Do a barrel roll”

The term barrel roll refers to an aeroplane manoeuvre when the plane does a full 360 degree roll in the air.

But not just planes do the rolls, type “do a barrel roll” into Google and watch the screen spin.

“Flip a coin”

Need to settle something but don’t have a coin to hand? Your friendly search engine can help.

Type “flip a coin” into Google and it’ll “toss a coin” on your behalf.

“Askew”

Google the words “askew” or “tilt” and Google will take you very literally.

Those jokers have tilted the whole screen so all your search results will look slightly off kilter.

“Zerg rush”

A “zerg rush” is a tactic in the game Starcraft where you ambush a low-level group in the hope that the they will be overwhelmed by the volume of the enemy.

If you search for “zerg rush” you’ll see a basic version of the battle strategy with “Os” attacking the words on the screen.

You can click on each “O” three times to kill it but as they come from all angles you’re definitely fighting a losing battle.

What was the Christmas Google Easter egg last year?

If you searched for “12 days of Christmas” – or any other Christmas-related term – the site was transformed into a festive scene.

The Christmas theme added a green banner to the top of the page with a border of tea lights.

Also featured on the advent motif were candy canes, a gingerbread man, a gingerbread house, cookies, candles, a glass of milk and a sprig of holly.
