Is TyTy Washington Next in the Line of Promising Point Guards Coming Out of Kentucky Wildcats?

The Kentucky Wildcats had a rough 2020-21 season. They were in the news for all the wrong reasons after a terrible 9-16 record. But the 2021-22 season already promises to be better.

Their excellent start to the off-season has got better with TyTy Washington, one of the best point guards in the country committing to their basketball program. He is the second five-star prospect they have added in the summer. The first one was Daimion Collins, a forward from Atlanta.

The class of 2021 star explained that he joined Kentucky because of the challenges that came along with it. He said, “There is a big challenge at Kentucky for playing time and a leadership role. I always liked a challenge.”

Another challenge he faces is the expectations of being a point guard playing for the Wildcats. Tyler Ulis, John Wall, and De’Aaron Fox are three of the top names that shone at the point guard position at Kentucky. Now Washington will aim to join them.

TyTy Washington can push the Kentucky Wildcats to the next level

Washington was heavily recruited by Arizona and Creighton too. Many fans felt he would join coach Tommy Lloyd and the Arizona Wildcats, but coach John Calipari swooped in to bring in the 6-3, 185-pound guard. Washington is ranked third among point guards and 21st in the nation according to 247 Sports.

Wall and Fox also came in with similar hype and although they didn’t get their hands on a title, they left their mark. Washington will have to work hard to deliver a similar impact on this Wildcats team. There will be a lot of pressure on him to perform since he will be expected to help the team return to greatness.

TyTy is a skilled playmaker who can score at will but also create chances. The team has a lot of firepower so his playmaking skills will be very useful. The Wildcats have many good shooters on the team, and TyTy can get the best out of them. He excels at scoring via shooting or finishing at the rim.

Finally, his size and athleticism helps him to be a defensive menace as well. He can defend both guard positions and looks like a promising two-way star. Fans will hope that Washington can live up to the billing and end their NCAA title drought as well.
