Janet Jackson’s brothers have spoken out about Justin Timberlake’s apology to the singer over the Super Bowl halftime show controversy.

In March, SexyBack singer Justin issued a statement apologising to both Janet and Britney Spears for his ‘misogynistic’ behaviour.

He came under fire following the Framing Britney Spears documentary, which recounted how he perpetuated the sexism Britney received after their split in 2002.

Attention then turned to the 2004 Super Bowl incident, where he tore off part of Janet’s outfit exposing her breast. Janet received much of the blame and Justin was criticised for not defending her in the years that followed.

Janet’s brothers, Tito, Marlon and Jackie, have now accepted Justin’s apology and appear ready to move on.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Marlon said: ‘You know, it takes a man to step up and do that, so we do thank him for doing that. But we’d like to move forward because that was out there, the negativity about it.’

‘But, as they say in the old days, as long as they’re talking about you, good or bad, you’re still in the public’s eye.’

He added: ‘We thank you, Justin, for what you did.’

Jackie said it was nice for Justin to apologise publicly ‘because it kind of hurt Janet in the past. So for him to step up and say that, it means a whole lot.’

Rhythm Nation hitmaker Janet is yet to directly speak out about the drama but she did thank fans for their support days after Justin released his statement.

‘I was at home just the other day by myself and I began to cry. I was crying because I was so thankful for all that God has blessed me with, all he’s given me,’ she said in an Instagram video at the time.

In his statement, Justin, 40, acknowledged his ‘white male privilege’ and that he ‘benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism’.

He explained: ‘I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.

‘I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from.’

It has since been revealed that Janet, 54, is set to open up about the Super Bowl controversy in an ‘unfiltered’ documentary.
