Lidl shoppers fuming after loyalty scheme change makes prizes ‘worse’

LIDL shoppers have been left fuming after a loyalty scheme shakeup means they could win “worse” prizes.

The supermarket has scrapped its scratchcard game on the Lidl Plus app and replaced it with a new spin the wheel offer.

Lidl has replaced its scratchcard game with spin the wheel in its Lidl Plus app

Before, scratchcard winners would scoop between 25p and £20 off their next shop.

While these prizes are still up for grabs, customers can also score discounts off specific products, such as 50% off washing up liquid.

But shoppers aren’t impressed claiming cash off their next spend is more useful but harder to win in the spin the wheel game.

Plus, unlike Morrions’ new loyalty scheme, the coupons aren’t personalised so only benefit shoppers who would normally buy the specified product.

What can shoppers win in Lidl’s ‘spin the wheel’ game?

LIDL shakes up its prizes on the spin the wheel game every few months. Here’s what you can win between April 29 2021 and June 30 2021:

If you land on a blue segment:

  • A coupon worth the value of your previous shop, up to £20, for money off your next spend

If you land on a yellow segment:

  • 50% off W5 Platinum Washing Up Liquid, 500ml
  • 40p off Deluxe Fruit & Nut Bars, 3 x 45g
  • 50% off Deluxe Hand Cooked Crisps, 150g
  • 50% off Filled Ring Doughnut
  • 40p off Deluxe Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, 1L
  • 50% off Cien Premium Handwash assorted, 300ml

Customers have taken to Twitter to air their frustration at the changes.

One shopper wrote: “@LidlGB Much as I love my Lidl app, I’d prefer you went back to ‘x pence off your next spend’ than discount vouchers on wheel spin/scratch card wins, as they’re always for things I don’t buy!”

Another said: “@LidlGB I love you Lidl , I really do , but replacing the app scratch cards with the rubbish “Spin of Surprises” was a bad move – it sums this last year up #disappointing”.

“Anyone else come to the conclusion that #lidl ‘spin of surprises’ has much worse odds than the old Lidl scratch card?” wrote a third shopper.

Meanwhile, Scott said: “Lidl’s spin of surprises is slightly more exciting than the scratchcards. But the prizes are gash. I don’t want 50% off jam. I want 75p off of anything I want.”

Paul said: “@LidlGB Please bring back the Lidl+ scratchcard. At least a win made me do an extra trip back to Lidl to spend my winnings.

Not all Lidl shoppers are impressed with the game change

“Everything I’ve won on Spin the Wheel has been nothing I’d want to buy (even with the discount win), so no incentive now to pop back for that extra shop.”

“Everytime I spin the spinner on the Lidl app I always win granola to get money off,” said Sarah, “I don’t even like it!”

Lidl says the scratchcard game was pulled from the app in February for some shoppers and has now been removed for everyone using the app.

The supermarket insisted shoppers still have a chance of winning money off their next shop as well as a variety of other prizes.

Prizes are fixed for a certain period of time before being replaced with new ones.

Shoppers get the chance to spin the wheel every time they scan the app when they spend in store, but there’s no guarantee of a win.

The supermarket launched its loyalty scheme in August last year, offering customers a £5 voucher when they signed up.

It added that it has a number of different game options to try on the Lidl Plus app to find the right one for shoppers.

The app is available to download for free from Google Play and the App Store.
