NCIS: New Orleans star Scott Bakula admits he didn’t expect show to end after season 7: ‘I’m surprised it was cancelled’
NCIS: New Orleans star Scott Bakula had admitted he was just as surprised as the fans when the show was cancelled earlier this year.
CBS announced in February that NCIS: New Orleans was ending after its current seventh season.
Scott has played NCIS agent Dwayne ‘King’ Pride since the spin-off drama began back in 2014.
The 66-year-old told TV Insider that he was taken aback by the news, given the show’s solid ratings.
‘This being the last season, going out in the middle of a pandemic, I didn’t think it was going to happen. I’m surprised the show was cancelled.’
Scott also thanked fans for following the show as it moved across several time slots. The drama initially aired on Tuesdays at 9pm on CBS, before moving to Sundays at 10pm for season six.
‘I appreciate they’re sticking to us and sticking by us and that transfers to all around the planet. We’re in [more than] 200 markets all over the world,’ the actor added.
‘We’ve had a great run. They’ve been very supportive. They seem to have liked the show, they like the stories we told, the characters on the show, and that’s why we do it,’ he continued.
‘We do it because we want people to grow a relationship and attach and invite us into their homes and we don’t take that lightly. I never have.’
‘I honor them and we have always had a great relationship and I look forward to continuing that in the future,’ Bakula added.
Scott has starred alongside the likes of Vanessa Ferlito, Necar Zadegan, Charles Michael Davis, Rob Kerkovich, Daryl ‘Chill’ Mitchell, Chelsea Field, and CCH Pounder in NCIS: New Orleans since 2014, which has been a colossal hit with viewers.
It’s not all bad news for NCIS fans, though. The finale of NCIS: New Orleans will arrive later this month and the blockbuster franchise has a new spin-off series in the works after CBS confirmed NCIS: Hawaii is on its way.
NCIS: New Orleans airs on CBS in the US and Fox UK.
