Following Little Mix’s history-making win at The Brits this week, Perrie Edwards has shared a sweet note she received from Geri Horner after the group name-dropped the Spice Girls in their acceptance speech.

The Confetti singers, also made up of Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, became the first female act to win the best British group at last night’s ceremony – that’s right, the first.

And on the night, they made sure to mention the other girl groups that had led the way before them, from the Spice Girls, to Sugababes, All Saints and Girls Aloud.

After the official account for 90s icons Spice Girls – which also counts Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham as members – celebrated the girls’ win, Geri went one further by sending a note to Perrie as the singer showed off her dining room which, packed with so many bouquets, more resembled a florist.

Geri’s note read: ‘Dear Perrie, Congratulations. Thank you for the shout out. Love, Geri xxx [Spice Girls].’

Special shout out to the [Spice Girls] explainer so she knew who ‘Geri’ was. Always helpful.

Sharing the struggles they were up against as women in the music industry, on the night Little Mix shared a passionate speech as they told the crowd at the O2: ‘It’s not easy being a female in the pop industry, we’ve seen the white male dominance, sexism and lack of diversity.

‘The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud…

‘All of the incredible, incredible female bands, this one is for you.’

Right on cue, the groups they had named publicly thanked them for the shout-out on social media – while also congratulating the important win.

The Spice Girls Twitter account posted: ‘Congratulations @LittleMix. Doing it for the Girls!! #BRITs #GirlPower.’

‘YES GIRLS!! Congrats @LittleMix and thanks for the shout out,’ All Saints penned.

As Sugababes added: ‘.@LittleMix, thank you for the incredible speech. You are so deserving of this award and we could not be happier for you @BRITs #BRITs.’

Honestly, this is what girl power is all about.
