Sir Paul McCartney raves about eye yoga as he reveals impressive gym workout
Sir Paul McCartney has claimed eye yoga helped improve his vision, as he opened up about impressing gym buffs with his workout.
The Beatles legend revealed he has been giving his eyes a good workout regularly, which he believes has aided his vision.
Appearing on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, the 78-year-old explained he learned the technique from a yoga instructor in India.
‘I learned off some yogi in India. He explained that your eyes are muscles. Your ears aren’t, so you can’t exercise your ears,’ he said.
‘But your eyes, you can. So head still. And then you look up as far as you can, one, two, three, go back to the middle, then down, back to the middle.
‘You do three lots of that then go to the left and the right. Now you’ve got a cross, up and down, and sideways, now you do the diagonals.’
Admitting the technique looks a bit ‘weird’, he credited it for helping him read without glasses.
While there is no evidence that eye yoga can correct vision issues, exercises can sometimes help relieve strain.
As well as this, Sir Paul confessed that he has been showing off his headstand skills at the end of a gym session, leaving other very impressed.
To be fair, we’d be pretty surprised if an actual Beatle whacked out a headstand after a full-on workout.
‘If I’m in a gym and all the big guys have got big weights and they’re doing all the big stuff, at the end I do a headstand,’ he added.
‘And they come over to me [and say], “That’s pretty impressive man.”’
Sir Paul’s workout details come after he spilled the beans about a wild night out with Bob Dylan – which resulted in him getting stoned for the first time.
As you do.
In a candid interview with Uncut magazine, the Let It Be singer recalled the night, alongside his bandmates Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison.
‘It was at the Delmonico Hotel on Park Avenue and 59th in New York City in August 1964,’ he reflected. ‘We were in a hotel room, all being good old lads having our Scotch and Coke – it was an afterparty, I think.
‘Dylan arrived and he went into the bedroom with his roadie. Ringo went along to see what was up. So he finds Dylan, rolling up, and he has a toke. He came back in and we said, “What was it like?”’
‘So Ringo says, “The ceiling is kind of moving down…” We all ran into the backroom going, “Give us a bit, give us a bit!” So that was the very first evening we ever got stoned!’
