Joe Swash has spoken about the slightly ‘awkward’ moment he proposed to Stacey Solomon, saying that she ‘thought someone had died’.

The Loose Women star, 31, confirmed her engagement to former EastEnders actor Joe, 39, back in December, after he popped the question on Christmas Eve.

But things didn’t get off to the best of starts.

Speaking on Thursday night’s Celebrity Juice about the moment he got down on one knee, Joe said: ‘To be fair the proposal was a bit awkward as well.

‘I thought it would be really nice [to] do it on Christmas Eve and I took her in to the forest. And I got a lady to put a load of flowers out.’

Stacey, though, didn’t quite realise what was happening.

‘When I took her through the forest, she saw the flowers and she went “aww I think someone’s died over there.” Because it was all white flowers.

‘I went to her: “Oh come let’s have a look, pay some respects.”’

It might have been an unfortunate start to their married life together, but Joe’s story still got a big laugh from Keith Lemon, Emily Atack, Maya Jama, Laura Whitmore, Alex Brooker and Michelle Visage on the show.

In the meantime, Joe and Stacey have been wasting no time making preparations.

Stacey previously revealed that she and Joe will be getting married in July, having been dating since 2015. She also recently revealed she’s begun searching for her wedding dress.

The singer also recently responded to fans asking her to do a walkthrough video of her new dream home or share her floorplans, admitting she worries it would attract burglars.
