Zelina Vega returning to WWE? Star ‘back at Performance Center’ months after getting fired
Zelina Vega could be in line for a big WWE comeback just months after she was released from the company.
The 30-year-old superstar was let go in November 2020, with the wrestling giant confirming her departure after the superstar was vocal about unionisation and drama at the time surrounding third party platforms.
Now, Fightful Select reports that Vega has been spotted filming at the Performance Center on Thursday morning.
It’s said she wasn’t simply popping in to visit friends, and although the full context isn’t clear, the site suggested that she there was a reason behind her being there.
Furthermore, sources have said ‘the working plan is for her to return to the company’.
Zelina’s real life husband Aleister Black – who hasn’t wrestled since she was fired – recently returned to TV as part of vignettes promoting his comeback on SmackDown.
In November, the company released a brief statement on WWE.com to announce her departure, which: ‘WWE has come to terms on the release of Zelina Vega. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.’
No reason was given for her departure after three years with the brand.
Shortly before the announcement – but, according to reports, after she was informed of the decision – Zelina tweeted: ‘I support unionization. (sic)’
Following her release, she returned to Twitch after recently having to halt streaming due to WWE’s apparent clamp down on stars using third party platforms in this way.
She insisted she has no plans to retire and that she had nothing bad to say, even if people had been tuning in hoping for that kind of reaction.
Instead, she voiced her gratitude for living out her dream, while admitting she is ‘completely heartbroken’ by the way things have unfolded.
She said: ‘I’m sad. I’m completely heartbroken. But obviously this isn’t the last you’re going to see of me. I don’t know what the future is going to hold…
‘If I go down as someone who stood up for themselves then, you know, so be it. But I’m so thankful.
‘I’m not angry, I’m just heartbroken. Because doing this, being a wrestler is all I ever wanted to do. So I don’t really know what to say, I don’t really know…’
She later took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support, alongside a photo of her ring gear paying tribute to her late father.
She wrote: ‘I want to say thank you all very much for the last 3-4 years @WWEUniverse, it was incredible.
‘I would have never have been able to say “this is for you dad” if certain people did not believe in me. I love you all and I couldn’t have done it without your support’.
Since her exit, Adrande – whom she was paired with successfully on screen – was let go from the company, but before her release Zelina had started to branch out as a wrestler in her own right.
