Bianca Andreescu’ Misfortune Continues, Raises Serious Concerns for French Open 2021 Participation

The 20-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu is inarguably one of the brightest young talents in WTA. Unfortunately, most of her professional career has been plagued with injuries and seems to have paused her growth. Troubling times continue for her as she has now pulled out from the Emilia Romagna Open 2021.

Previously, the Canadian was all set to begin her clay-court season at the Madrid Open 2021. But before the tournament started, she tested positive for the coronavirus.

Till now, Bianca has not yet recovered from the illness. Hence, she has to miss the WTA 250 event in Parma, Italy starting May 16.

Moreover, the withdrawal has also raised serious doubts regarding her French Open participation. Hopefully, she will recover soon to spend some time on clay before Roland Garros.

Bianca Andreescu out, Venus and Serena Williams in for Parma

After beating Serena Williams in the 2019 US Open final, Bianca Andreescu was ready to shoot for the stars. But post that glory, the Canadian struggled to keep away from injuries and prematurely ended her season.

Following that, the pandemic outbreak prolonged her break from tennis to more than a year. She marked her return in 2021 at the Australian Open but crashed out in the second round.

Later, she found her rhythm, reaching the semifinals in Phillip Island Trophy and the final in Miami Open. Regrettably, she picked up the virus afterward and missed most of the clay-court swing.

Besides Bianca, the participation of Venus and Serena Williams in Parma has restored the excitement for tennis fans. The sisters had both taken part in the Italian Open, where Venus withdrew due to a knee injury, and Serena lost in her opening match.

Joining the Williams sisters, the 17-year-old American Coco Gauff has confirmed her Emilia Romagna Open participation. She is currently on a dream run in Rome and will face World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the quarterfinals.

Bianca’s season ahead

The Canadian No. 1 will try her best to play at the French Open 2021. But given her lack of match reps, she might crash out the way she did at the Australian Open.

Moreover, her main target would be to recover fully for the Wimbledon Championships 2021. A good two weeks in the UK could boost her confidence to pull through the entire season.

There is no question about her stunning top players as soon as she returns. It just remains to be seen how long it will take her to come back.
