‘Easy Holes’ – J.J. Spaun Rates TPC Craig Ranch Layout at AT&T Byron Nelson
J.J. Spaun has never won a tournament since joining the PGA Tour in 2017. The American has played some solid golf in the past, and he’s now reviving his good form at the AT&T Byron Nelson 2021. A lot of it had to do with the wonderful conditions that prevailed at TPC Craig Ranch on Thursday.
Spaun has been competing for quite a few years now and has four Top 3 finishes under his belt. He’s been chasing the elusive victory for a long time, and there’s a good chance that he can do it at AT&T Byron Nelson this week.
J.J. Spaun entered Round 1 without any major expectations on his shoulder. He played a free game at TPC Craig Ranch and shot 9-under 63 on Thursday. This score put him atop the leaderboard, and the 30-year-old later explained the motivation behind the low-round.
J.J. Spaun is delighted with the TPC Craig Ranch course layout
This is the first time TPC Craig Ranch is hosting a PGA Tour event. Safe to say that the tour pros are already liking the McKinney, Texas, golf course. Spaun was asked to state the reason behind his low-scoring round on Thursday, to which he replied:
“I feel like there are more easy holes than hard holes, so you kind of just got to stay in the moment. You got try to attack when you can. Fairways are pretty wide,” Spaun mentioned.
J.J. Spaun made nine birdies and nine pars in Round 1. He enjoyed a bogey-free day at TPC Craig Ranch and made 83.33% greens in regulation. The L.A. native is extremely satisfied with how the layout has been spread to challenge the golfers.
“Yeah, there are some long holes, but you just kind of swing away, and if you can get a close one on those ones and pour it in, great. But all the par-5s are reachable, at least today for me, which says they’re pretty short,” Spaun told the reporters.
J.J Spaun played without any expectations in Round 1. Things can become tricky when he absorbs all the external pressure. He’s now the 18-hole co-leader at AT&T Byron Nelson. Do you think he can sustain his spot over the week?
