Joe Exotic series casts Brian Van Holt as Tiger King star John Reinke alongside Kate McKinnon’s Carole Baskin
The upcoming TV series about Joe Exotic has cast Brian Van Holt in a pivotal role, with the actor portraying Tiger King star John Reinke.
In March last year, it was announced that Saturday Night Live favourite Kate McKinnon had been cast as big cat-loving sensation Carole Baskin in a Peacock limited TV series with the working title Joe Exotic.
The show follows the release of the Tiger King docu-series on Netflix last year, when viewers were introduced to zookeeper of exotic animals Joe Exotic, who is currently serving a 22-year sentence in prison and will be played by John Cameron Mitchell.
Brian, 51, has previously starred in productions including the 2005 slasher film House of Wax and the sitcom Cougar Town.
According to Deadline, he is set to play John in the Joe Exotic series, who was a close friend of Joe’s and a zookeeper at his zoo before things went south.
The programme is based on the Wondery Podcast titled Joe Exotic, focusing on the highly-publicised feud between Carole and Joe.
When Carole learns that Joe is breeding and using his big cats for profits, she embarks on a mission to shut down his business.
However, Joe isn’t having it, with their now-famous rivalry intensifying to the extreme.
Joe also strives to expose what he believes are skeletons in Carole’s closet, resulting in a dramatic turn of events.
In addition to the upcoming Joe Exotic series, Nicolas Cage is also set to play the convicted felon in another TV series that’s being produced by CBS.
The show is said to be based on the Texas Monthly article, ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild’.
It was recently reported that Joe had reached out to the two actors set to play him in separate TV programmes.
In a tweet, he wrote: ‘I want to be in direct email contact with John Cameron Mitchell and Nicholas (sic) Cage during filming so they know the real me instead of made up bull****.’
Tiger King is available to watch on Netflix.
