Liam Gallagher wants to head to Porto for the Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Istanbul was set to be the host city, but UEFA moved the game to Portugal after it was put on the green list for travel during the coronavirus pandemic, while Turkey was put on the red list.

Each club has been allocated 6,000 tickets and the match was moved so fans of both sides can travel to the Estadio do Drago in Porto for the match on May 29.

Taking to Twitter to share his hope of being able to go to the game, former Oasis frontman and Man City fan Liam, 48, wrote: ‘Porto it’s me wonderwall dude let me in (sic)’

When asked if he had tickets to the game, the musician replied: ‘I’ve put the word out.’

Portuguese authorities gave the go ahead for the Champions League final to take place in Porto this week.

While each football club has been allocated the same number of tickets, the capacity of the stadium is yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for football governing body UEFA explained: ‘UEFA discussed moving the match to England but, despite exhaustive efforts on the part of the Football Association and the authorities, it was not possible to achieve the necessary exemptions from UK quarantine arrangements.’

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin added: ‘Fans have had to suffer more than 12 months without the ability to see their teams live and reaching a Champions League final is the pinnacle of club football.

‘To deprive those supporters of the chance to see the match in person was not an option and I am delighted that this compromise has been found.

‘After the year that fans have endured, it is not right that they don’t have the chance to watch their teams in the biggest game of the season.’

Travel rules currently mean people outside the European Union cannot travel to Portugal due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Portugal’s tourist board confirmed UK tourists will be able to enter the country from Monday.

British travellers will not have to quarantine on return from Portugal as it is on the UK government’s green list.
