“Looked Weird Probably, Maybe Sometimes Like I Was Tanking”: Iga Swiatek on Her Win at Italian Open 2021

Defending French Open champion Iga Swiatek is in Rome, competing at the Italian Open 2021. She played her pre-quarterfinal match and faced many tough situations in her win over Barbora Krejcikova. However, she held her nerve and managed to overcome the obstacles on her path to edge closer towards glory.

After her win, Iga Swiatek reflected on the various situations that had arisen during the match. She maintained that she had to remain calm during the nervous moments. It was a roller coaster ride as she had to save two match points in order to emerge as the winner of the battle.

Swiatek stated, “Today, I mean, I was feeling a lot of emotions because it’s impossible not to. I had this barrier in my mind. I stayed the same when I was winning, I stayed the same when I was losing. It looked weird probably, maybe sometimes like I was tanking. It wasn’t that.”

Iga Swiatek struggled through the opening stages of the match

Initially, Iga lost the opening set and faced match points in the second set. During that period, she found it difficult to formulate a plan to beat her opponent. She was losing her cool and didn’t want to further distract herself from the match.

The 19-year-old teenager further added, “I was trying to find a solution because I didn’t want to get more and more angry. Yeah, it’s probably like my second match when I was saving match points and I won. It’s pretty weird for me. It was a tough match.”

After moving into the quarterfinal, the young Polish player will face Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina. This promises to be an exciting contest and all eyes will be on the defending Roland Garros champion.
