Money Heist has completed filming on its fifth and final season, with Netflix promising fans a thrilling ride when they watch the final instalment of the drama.

In July last year, it was announced that the fifth season of La casa de papel, otherwise known as Money Heist, would be its last following monumental success across the globe.

The Spanish TV series created by Álex Pina follows a team, led by a man named the Professor (Álvaro Morte), as they carry out intricate, dangerous heists that have been months in the making.

In a behind-the-scenes picture shared by Netflix on social media, the cast, including Úrsula Corberó, Pedro Alonso and Miguel Herrán, can be seen laughing on set while dressed in their signature red jumpsuits.

‘What started as a heist, ended as a family,’ the accompanying caption read.

‘It’s a wrap on Part 5 of La Casa de Papel / Money Heist.’

Without giving anything away, Netflix enticed fans with a hint at the excitement that is to come in the upcoming episodes.

‘Thank you to all the fans for being part of La Resistencia! We can’t wait to show you how this story ends,’ the streaming platform wrote.

Several fans expressed their delight over Money Heist’s return and their sadness that it is coming to an end.

‘Omg crying already,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘I’m gonna cry once it’s all over,’ next to a couple of sobbing emojis.

When it was announced that Money Heist was ending, the show’s creator explained that they had ‘spent almost a year’ pondering how they were going to split the crew up.

‘We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel,’ he said.

‘The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.’

In November 2020, it was announced that Netflix is to launch a Korean version of Money Heist, which will be directed by Kim Hong-sun.

Álex threw his support behind the new adaptation of the show, saying in a statement shared with Variety: ‘Korean creators have been developing their own language and audiovisual culture for years.

‘They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people.’

The Money Heist creator added that he was ‘delighted’ that the Korean version of the series would be set on the Koreon Peninsula.

The fifth season of Money Heist is expected to be released later this year.

Money Heist Parts 1 to 4 are available to watch on Netflix.
