“Not Enough to Bet My House’ – Daniel Ricciardo Hints at His F1 Title Hopes Falling Apart

The moment Daniel Ricciardo stepped out of Red Bull Racing in 2018 and grabbed onto a seat in a much slower Renault, millions questioned this life-changing gamble.

However, the Australian maintained his positive intent and claimed he would turn things around for the French outfit, but the reality was much harsh. Considering the lack of improvement over his two-year stay at Renault, Ricciardo jumped boat onto McLaren.

And yet again, he reckoned he could finally accomplish the dream of clinching his first world championship title with the British outfit. The Australian constantly stressed that Mclaren possesses enough talent and intent at re-kindling their older form.

But, as things stand, the confidence in Honey Badger is steadily diminishing, as he feels the highly competitive sport could obstruct him from lifting a title.

What’s more, the approaching 2022 season is likely to bunch up the grid further closer than now. Hence, Ricciardo’s pursuit of a championship win will only make things further complicated.

Considering the current scenario, Ricciardo opened up that he would not bet his house on winning a world championship title in Formula 1.

What did Daniel Ricciardo say?

As reported by Soy Motor, the McLaren driver opened up that his goal is still very much intact on the title despite his hopes gradually dwindling.

I would not say that I am afraid of it. I have never doubted my ability. But I know enough to know that such a competitive sport, there are no guarantees,” he said. (Translated from Spanish using Google Translate)

I have not changed my goal. But it is true that I could not be another ten years in Formula 1. I still trust myself. But not enough to bet my house that I will win the title. I know how this sport works.

Since the sensational switch to McLaren, Ricciardo struggled his way through the first couple of race weekends. He was consistently slower than his teammate, Lando Norris.

Hence, the hype that initially revolved around Ricciardo, seems to be breaking apart quite dramatically. And hence, the 31-year-old will need to make a sound comeback at the earliest possible time if he wishes to remain McLaren‘s favorite. But will he? Only time will tell.
