Piers Morgan is set to make a splashy return to ITV’s airwaves later this year as his show Life Stories returns – with Sir Keir Starmer first in the hot seat.

The Labour leader will sit down with the broadcaster for an hour-long episode of Life Stories, due to be filmed next month and expected to air on ITV in the coming months.

Piers was last on ITV in mid-March, when his pre-recorded Life Stories interview with Coleen Nolan was broadcast.

Shortly before that, he quit his role as a Good Morning Britain presenter after claiming he was sceptical about Meghan Markle having had suicidal thoughts, as revealed in her and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Sir Keir will be Piers’ first interview with a party leader on Life Stories since the former tabloid editor interviewed Gordon Brown when he was prime minister in 2010.

Sir Keir is set to discuss his childhood in Surrey, his family life and his move into politics from law, culminating in his appointment as Labour leader last April.

Labour has recently been in turmoil, following a weak performance in council elections in England and the leader’s subsequent, highly-criticised reshuffle.

The party is still trying to recover from its general election defeat under Sir Keir’s predecessor Jeremy Corbyn, which was its worst since 1935.

Piers said: ‘It’s very unusual for party political leaders to submit themselves to such lengthy personal interviews and I am delighted that Sir Keir has agreed to talk to me about his fascinating life.

‘It promises to be a memorable and very revealing Life Stories show.’

ITV’s head of entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe, commented: ‘Sir Keir Starmer promises to be a real treat for our ITV audience.’

Piers has recently doubled down on his criticism of Meghan during Mental Health Awareness Week.

Responding to a user who blasted him for suggesting he ‘believed’ in mental health, Piers wrote: ‘I believe in mental illness, I just don’t believe Meghan Markle.’
