WATCH: Roberto Bautista Agut’s Sportsmanship Act at Italian Open 2021, Asks Crowd to Stay for Andrey Rublev

World No.7 Andrey Rublev recently defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets at the Italian Open 2021. Playing in the round of 16, the Russian played both the sets really well and stunned the Spaniard with his amazing forehands. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 6-4.

Besides Andrey Rublev’s phenomenal gameplay, it was a reaction of Roberto Bautista Agut that really impressed fans. During the break, the officials asked the spectators to leave the stadiums as it already became really late. Bautista was leading 4-3 at that moment and Rublev was the one who had to serve after that.

However, Bautista got into an argument with the match officials asking them to make sure that the crowd remains until the next game. He clearly didn’t want Rublev to play without the fans’ support as he thought it would be unfair to the young player. Thus, he called the officials and told them and that the spectators should stay at least for the next game.

It was a really nice gesture from Bautista to stop the crowd from leaving at that point of time. Fans are liking it a lot and hailing the Spaniard for his actions.

Roberto Bautista Agut in the 2021 season so far

Bautista has quite a topsy-turvy tennis season so far. Although the 33-year-old has given some really tough competition to a few big players, he hasn’t been able to finish well on most of the occasions.

The Spaniard is yet to win a title this season. However, he has played two finals and ended as the runner-up at the Open Sud de France and at the Qatar Open 2021. Interestingly, it was he who defeated Rublev in the semis in Doha.

The biggest win for him this year has to be at the Miami Open 2021 where he crushed the World No.2, Daniil Medvedev, in straight sets. Even though Jannik Sinner defeated him in the semis, he looked really dangerous in the tournament.

Bautista hasn’t been up to the mark when it comes to playing on clay. However, he is training hard and fans expect him to turn the tables around. Will the Spaniard be able to succeed at the French Open 2021?
