Netflix has got your back this Friday night, dropping the thriller The Woman In The Window for your weekend viewing pleasure.
The Woman In The Window, the adaptation of AJ Finn’s bestselling book, has been in production hell since 2018, when it bombed with test audiences and Tony Gilroy was brought in for rewrites.
It missed its October 2019 release date and was pushed until May 2020, but was then removed from the release calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It didn’t help that the book of the same name’s author Dan Mallory, who writes under the name AJ Finn, was also found to have lied about having cancer and the deaths of his very much alive parents, with a profile in The New Yorker detailing his various fabrications.
Fox, who merged with Disney, then shifted the distribution rights to Netflix, who have now released the film, and reviews aren’t exactly glowing even with all of the efforts to fix it.
However, The Woman In The Window does boast an all-star cast, with Oscar winners and nominees starring in this psychological thriller.
Six-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams plays Anna, a psychologist with agoraphobia who watches the world go by from the window of her Harlem apartment.
Oscar winner Julianne Moore plays Jane Russell, a neighbour across the street who befriends Anna. However, through her window, Anna later sees Jane being stabbed by her husband Alistair – played by Oscar winner Gary Oldman.
She calls the police, but they don’t believe her claims – firstly because of her dishevelled condition, but secondly when Alistair comes over with his wife in tow, although this Jane is played by Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Also in the film are The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, who plays Anna’s estranged husband Ed, and Wyatt Russell, who plays Anna’s tenant David, Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry, who plays Detective Little, and Eighth Grade actor Fred Hechinger, who plays the Russells’ son Ethan.
The Woman In The Window is on Netflix now.
