David Benavidez Reveals a Major Weakness in Canelo Alvarez’s Past Opponents
The pound-for-pound king of boxing, Canelo Alvarez ranks among the biggest boxing faces today. With his out-of-the-box prowess and in-ring conduct, Alvarez has made his way to the peak and stayed there. This is primarily because only a handful of his opponents could break Alvarez’s style of fighting and approach to the game.
In fact, in his past few fights, the Mexican boxer has given a fair and square beating to his fellow adversaries. What is it that his past opponents lacked?
In a chat with Fight Hub TV, the ex-WBC super-middleweight champ, David Benavidez, addressed the same concern and shared his take on it.
He said, “I feel like I can beat (Canelo). I saw a lot of things (in the last fight) that I know I can take advantage of. Canelo’s opponents, the last ones, didn’t have power. I have the goods to give Canelo a great fight… I know I’m going to be the one that beats Canelo.” (h/t ESPN Ringside)

In his last fight, Canelo battered Billy Joe Saunders to claim a sensational win. Saunders fared well in this fight, but Saul Alvarez’s prowess was too much to handle. Prior to Saunders, Canelo faced Avni Yildirim and won that fight hassle-free. If Alvarez and Benavidez keep winning, a collision could be imminent.
David Benavidez hungry to fight Canelo Alvarez
For a long time, ‘El Bandera Roja’ has asked for a 12-round war against the stout Canelo Alvarez. The former champ boasts an immaculate record of 24-0. Moreover, a whopping 21 of his wins have arrived via T/KO.
He feels he has every ability in this world to condemn Canelo to his second career loss. However, he will have to wait for a while to secure this fight. For now, the Guadalajara boxer only wants to conquer all the belts at the 168-pound weight class. And before that, he won’t look to fight anyone else.
Hence, until he gets a fight with Alvarez, Benavidez should look to fighting any and every opponent in his way, thus making his chances viable for a bout against Canelo.
What do you make of Benavidez’s comments on Canelo’s past opponents?
