Lando Norris Believes He Can Give Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen a “Run for Their Money”

When Daniel Ricciardo made the move to McLaren, everyone expected him to be the bona fide star of the team. But so far into this season, his teammate, Lando Norris has stolen the show. His form has been so good that he now even has the confidence to go up against the big boys.

He sits fourth in the 2021 standings after being an epitome of consistency mixed with intelligent race craft and raw speed in the opening rounds. Since success in F1 is so much dependent on the car, Lando feels that he can compete for the biggest prize if given the right one.

“I just feel like with how I have done this season I am driving at a level that is capable of winning races and maybe one day a world championship,” Norris proclaimed.

But to win the championship, he will have to beat the two biggest names in F1 right now, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Though he isn’t overwhelmed by the prospect of facing him. Rather he believes that he can cause those two to have sleepless nights over him –

“I’m at a level where I would say I could go up against Lewis or Max and – I’ve got to be careful how I say it, not say I could 100 percent beat them – but I could give them a run for their money and I could give it a good effort.”

Lando Norris feels on the ‘top of my game’, whether in dry or wet conditions

In dry conditions in Bahrain, he crossed the chequered flag in fourth. On the other hand, when it rained in Imola, he recorded an unlikely podium. Even making his more experienced McLaren teammate swallow his pride. So, it’s appropriate he feels that he’s the man for all seasons.

“With how I feel I have done so far this season, I feel if I was in a car capable of winning races, I feel like I could. Whether it’s in the wet conditions, the dry conditions, I feel I am driving at the moment in a very good manner. I feel I am on top of my game, doing a lot of things right and doing myself proud in a lot of ways,” said Norris.

And why shouldn’t he feel proud of himself? After all, he’s outclassed his more-heralded seven-time race-winner teammate.
