Michael Hunter Reveals Why He Turned Down the Filip Hrgovic Fight – ‘We’re Talking About Business’

The Michael Hunter vs Filip Hrgovic matchup was in contention for a long time. In fact, the pair were all set to contend with each other for IBF heavyweight title fight eliminator. But the American boxer astonishingly pulled out of this fight and is all set to face Mike Wilson on June 19 instead.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM Boxing, Hunter detailed his take on pulling out of the Hrgovic fight.

“Yeah, well, you know, I still would like to fight the animal. But we’re talking about the business. Triller just gave me something I could not deny. And we were definitely getting ready for Hrgovic. That was my only focus at that time but like you said, we’re talking about business. It’s always looked and frowned upon when a boxer does a good business move,” said Hunter.

For the Hrgovic vs Hunter fight, the latter’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, submitted a bid of $6,06,666 which was supposed to be split in a 60/40 ratio between the two fighters. ‘The Bounty’ could have made approximately $3,64,000, and Hrgovic could have banked around $2,64,000.

But Hunter didn’t like this offer, and he then decided to pull out of this fight. He got a better deal with Triller, and consequently, the Californian opted to get his hands on this deal.

In his above interview, ‘The Bounty’ even admitted that it’s the promoters who make bad business moves at times. And a fighter should not be criticized if he decides to make good business moves.
