Sam Burns Achieves Career Milestone at AT&T Byron Nelson
Sam Burns is enjoying his game at AT&T Byron Nelson. The 24-year-old surged atop the leaderboard with a wonderful display in Round 2. Burns looks extremely confident with his striking and he shot a career-best round at TPC Craig Ranch on Friday.
Burns opened his account at the AT&T Byron Nelson with a 7-under 65 in Round 1. Of course, the conditions at the TPC Craig Ranch layout were aiding the golfers, but notching up back-to-back low-rounds is no easy task.
That’s exactly what Sam Burns did. He carded a 10-under 62 in Round 2 and vaulted atop the leaderboard with a score of 17-under for the tournament. The 62 also marked Burns’ lowest round on the PGA Tour and it deserves massive appreciation.
Burns has been playing regularly on the PGA Tour since 2019 and has never shot a 62 before. So one can definitely say that he reached new career heights at AT&T Byron Nelson with his 10-under round on Friday.
Sam Burns gained six places with his Round 2 display at TPC Craig Ranch. He made 10 birdies (five more than Round 1) and eight pars and recorded 71.43% driving accuracy en route to achieving his career low-round.
How did Sam Burns react to his 10-under 62?
Sam Burns led all players after his spectacular Round 2 display. He shot the lowest round on Friday and no player came close to matching it. Burns’ game was a delight to watch as his ball-striking was spot on at TPC Craig Ranch.
“Just feel like I got into a good rhythm throughout the round. Made a run right there on the back nine, and so it was nice to be able to finish it off with two birdies at the end,” Burns reflected on his performance.
“Good way to end the day. Just trying to get a good game plan out here for tomorrow and let’s see what happens,” he added.
Sam Burns has certainly put himself in contention at AT&T Byron Nelson. He looked strong with his game in the first two rounds and certainly won’t disappear in the weekend. Do you think he can become the first player since Camilo Villegas in 2008 to get his first two PGA Tour victories in consecutive starts?
