SAS: Who Dares Wins recruit breaks down in tears as he recalls girlfriend’s tragic death on e-scooter

SAS: Who Dares Wins viewers are in for emotional scenes on Sunday night’s episode, with a recruit recalling his girlfriend’s tragic death in a road accident.
Jake Hazell was overcome with tears during the latest episode, as he opened up to instructors Ant Middleton and Jason Fox.
The episode sees Jake face his fears by abseiling down a sheer cliff face, before being berated over his efforts by Ant.
‘I’m a very emotional guy. I think when I get scared, I could be someone that cries quite easily. Nowadays I express my emotions very easily. Until two or three years ago I never did,’ Jake said.
Jake then burst into tears after completing the task. After being taken aback by his reaction, Ant calls him in for a private conversation later in the episode.
During the emotional chat, Jake revealed that he was dealing with the loss of his partner Emily.
In July 2019, Emily and Jake had moved in together and they were hoping to start a family. Emily was then killed in a tragic road accident on her way to an appointment at an IVF clinic.
Emily died at the age of 35 whilst riding an electric scooter, which was gifted to her by Jake not long before her death. Jake was trolled by strangers who blamed him for her death.
Speaking about why he joined the programme, Jake said: ‘I signed up because I felt very lost in life.
‘After losing Emily back in 2019, I fear sometimes that I have given up in life without her. I needed to prove to myself that I hadn’t. I screamed down that cliff during the abseil task, but the fact I walked off that edge proved that I still had some fight left in me.’
Reflecting on his time on the programme, Jake added: ‘My experience on SAS: Who Dares Wins was one of the toughest I have ever endured. I am sure most people would say it would be without doubt the toughest.
‘However after losing my girlfriend Emily in 2019, SAS: Who Dares Wins takes second spot. It’s fair to say that I was not expecting it to be as challenging as it was for me. It brought up things in me that I have had buried deep down for a very long time.’
Ant praised Jake’s courage and encouraged him to complete his training on the show after the honest conversation.
Jake went on to say: ‘I am so grateful for the show and the opportunity as since leaving the course, it has helped me face up to and deal with some of those issues, rather than bury them down inside me. It helped me make peace with the whole situation.’
SAS: Who Dares Wins airs Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
