WATCH: Serena Williams Prepares For French Open 2021 Lead Up Event Following Disappointing Run in Rome

Serena Williams didn’t enjoy a great start in her clay-court season this year. The tennis queen was returning to the court after almost three months but her match surely didn’t go as per her plans. She lost to Nadia Podoroska in straight sets in the first round of the Italian Open 2021 and as a result, got knocked out of the tournament. The final scoreline of the match was 6(6)-7(8), 5-7.

Serena Williams hasn’t played well on clay in the recent past. It was her 1000th match on the WTA tour and she surely would not have wanted it to end like that. After the shocking result, her coach Patrick Mouratoglou did some amendments to her schedule.

Her earlier plan was to head straight to Paris after the Italian Open 2021. However, now, she is in Parma, Italy where she’ll be playing at the WTA 250 Emilia-Romagna Open 2021. It is the first edition of the tournament and Serena will certainly try to regain her momentum on clay at the tournament.

After her disappointing run in Rome, she has reached Parma and one can see her practicing there. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is practicing her basic forehand and backhand drills and her coach Patrick Mouratoglou is also there in the frame. The WTA event will begin on May 15, 2021, and will extend till May 22, 2021.

Interestingly, her sister and 7-time Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams, will also be playing at the Emilia-Romagna Open 2021.

Serena Williams in the 2021 season so far

Serena Williams got off to a great start as she managed to reach the semis of the Australian Open 2021. Even though Naomi Osaka defeated her there, she played really well at the tournament.

After this, she didn’t play any tournaments till the Italian Open 2021 as she suffered from an oral problem. She arrived in Rome with huge expectations but lost a close match to Podoroska.

Although she hasn’t been up to the mark while playing on clay, fans still have huge expectations from Williams. She’ll be heading to Paris after this- eyeing her fourth French Open title. Will Serena be able to win her 24th Grand Slam title at Roland Garros this year?
