WTA Parma 2021 Draw and Bracket: Venus and Serena Williams to Potentially Set Up a Clash

After their early exits at Madrid Open and Italian Open respectively, Serena Williams and Venus Williams are in the draw of WTA Parma Open 2021. They both are on the same side of the draw and could face each other later in the tounament.

Serena and Venus were awarded the wildcard to participate in Parma. Both the Williams sisters played their first tournaments on clay recently but saw defeats in their first match. Venus had earlier accepted a wildcard to participate in the Madrid Open but was ousted in the first round by Jennifer Brady. Whereas Serena played her first match since the Australian Open 2021, but lost in the second round of Italian Open 2021.

Who could Venus and Serena Williams face in WTA Parma 2021?

Serena is the top seed in WTA Parma Open. She is drawn to face a qualifier in the first round. Her first test could come against former World No.4 Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals. Moreover, Serena and Venus are on the same side of the draw and could collide in the semifinals.

Like her younger sister, Venus is also drawn against a qualifier in the first round. She could face a stern test early on against Amanda Anisimova in the second round. Furthermore, Venus could face 3rd seed Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals before her slated clash against Serena.

Other notable names in the draw are Sloane Stephens, Sara Errani, Qiang Wang, etc. Parma Open or Emilia-Romagna Open is an ATP as well as WTA 250 event. It has been on the ATP calendar since 2019 and joined the WTA calendar this year.

Originally, Parma was not on Serena’s calendar. However, because of an early exit in Rome, she changed her plans to get match practice before French Open 2021.

“Serena hasn’t been competing for a while, and we want to get as many matches under our belt as possible before Roland-Garros – so we’re adding the Emilia-Romagna Open to our schedule,” Serena’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou tweeted.

Parma Open is important for Serena. She has played only one match on clay and hence quickly needs matches as the French Open 2021 is just two weeks away.
