Phoebe Dynever has discussed the steamy moments her character Daphne Bridgerton shared with Simon Bassett in the hit TV series Bridgerton.

The Regency-era programme on Netflix redefined the period drama genre with its contemporary storytelling.

The show quickly became known for its titillating sex scenes, which were applauded for the portrayal of the female gaze.

The 26-year-old actress spoke about the sex scenes between herself and Regé-Jean Page in the hit series in a panel for Deadline.

‘There are a lot of differences between me and Daphne but I think she values family, which I also value, and at a time when women had only one option, she was as determined to make that happen as I am in my career I guess, and I think that was sort of my way into Daphne. I admired her more because she made it happen but she called the shots, and she also found love,’ she explained.

‘Their sexual evolution was very important to the storyline and something me, [showrunner Chris Van Dusen], Regé and everyone involved really wanted to tell truthfully and in a way that was safe for everyone.’

The intimacy coordinator on set, Lizzy Talbot, previously shared with Insider what it was like filming the intimate scenes and revealed which was her favourite.

She explained that the most challenging scene to film was when Daphne and Simon had sex all over his country estate after their wedding.

Even though the scene is just three minutes long, it took months to coordinate.

‘We were in loads of different locations all over the country, we were inside, outside, up ladders, we were everywhere! We were working in the dry and in the rain, on flagstone floors and up against walls and in Regency beds. So that was a bit of an intimacy circus going on there,’ Lizzy said.

However, Lizzy’s favourite sex scene to film was at the Reform Club, a private members’ club in London.

The scene shows Simon performing oral sex on Daphne in the library of his country estate and was the very first scene Phoebe filmed for the show.

‘It was super cheeky because women weren’t allowed in there until 1980 and we’re busting in and the first thing we’re doing is a scene of oral pleasure,’ Lizzy explained.

‘I was like, I see you Shonda, I see how this is going to go for the next nine months. So that was really fun.’

Season 1 of Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
