“It Was Real” – Eric Bischoff Reveals Why a Prime WCW Crossover With WWE Never Happened

Competition is what keeps any sport alive. This is the case for wrestling too. In fact, Eric Bischoff addressed a similar question when he was asked about collaborating with Vince McMahon.

The question was if he ever wanted to reach out to Vince McMahon and form and union, instead of being rivals.

Eric Bischoff revealed that if he could turn back time, he still wouldn’t collaborate with McMahon. He believes the competition between Nitro and Monday Night Wars is what kept the thrill alive. If the competition was taken away, it wouldn’t be a real battle.

“Absolutely not. I was right by the way. The fight, the battle, the war, whatever you want to call it is what raised the tide and everybody’s boat got to float a little higher. Without a real war, without real competition, then it’s all an illusion. The reason Nitro worked, the reason the Monday Night Wars were what they were, was because it was real.”

“Once you start doing something cooperatively, the war is gone. There is no war. It’s just an invasion angle or a storyline. There’s nothing wrong with that, by the way. It’s just not the same as a real war and a real battle that people actually believed in and invested in. I didn’t. I wouldn’t have supported it.”

Eric Bischoff revealed who went to Vince McMahon to work together

Even though Bischoff didn’t go to McMahon, he revealed Harvey Schiller and Bill Shaw approached Vince McMahon for the same.

“I will tell you however, Harvey Schiller did. Harvey Schiller had a meeting with Vince McMahon. I don’t know if it was in person or over the phone. I can’t remember that. Harvey Schiller approached Vince and I think Bill Shaw did too at one point. But, I was against it, but I didn’t get to vote. They didn’t ask me my permission for some reason, maybe because I worked for them (he laughs).”

Even though he didn’t want a collaboration between Nitro and Monday Night War, he believes there could be a potential WWE vs. AEW in the future.

“The AEW/WWE approach, AEW’s gotta go head-to-head. There’s gotta be a fight. There has to be a battle. In a case where you’re laying down an AEW vs. WWE match, champion vs. champion, okay that sounds really cool if you’re a cosplay wrestling journalist and a fan of those people. But it only works if there’s stakes. And the only stakes that matter are who turns out the biggest audience.”
