Saturday Night Live ruthlessly mocks Tom Cruise’s height and return of Golden Globes trophies

Tom Cruise’s height and the fact that he’s returning his Golden Globes awards were the butt of this weekend’s Saturday Night Live.

The Top Gun actor returned his three Golden Globe trophies in protest against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who came under scrutiny in regards to the lack of inclusion and representation across their Hollywood Foreign Press Association members.

The 58-year-old actor previously won two for best actor (Jerry Maguire and Born on the Fourth of July) and one for best supporting actor for Magnolia.

Anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che joked about new Covid mask rules, politician Liz Cheney, and Tom’s latest decision during the Weekend Update segment.

‘It was reported that Tom Cruise protested the lack of diversity at the Hollywood Foreign Press by returning his three Golden Globe statues, which was tough for him because they were sitting on pretty high shelves,’ Michael joked.

In another scene, Kate McKinnon reprised her role as Dr. Anthony Fauci, mocking the new announcement on Covid masks in the United States.

Tom has also been making headlines for doubling down over his Mission: Impossible rant that went viral at the end of last year.

In December, audio leaked of Tom screaming at unidentified staff members on the set of the seventh Mission: Impossible sequel after he found they were breaking Covid-19 social distancing rules.

The clip sent ripple waves in Hollywood with other celebrities sharing their thoughts on whether the rant was justified.

‘I said what I said,’ the blockbuster star told Empire magazine.

‘There was a lot at stake at that point… But it wasn’t my entire crew. I had the crew leave the set, and it was just select people.’

The Jack Reacher actor clarified that filming was ‘never shut down again’ so, in other words, his rant hit home for the crew members.

He continued: ‘And here we are, continuing to film. I do Zoom parties and kids’ parties also, you know!’

Tom also reflected on Mission: Impossible 7 becoming the first movie to shut down filming as the coronavirus pandemic began to mount in March 2020.

‘All those emotions were going through my mind,’ he said, adding: ‘And for the whole crew to know that we’d started rolling on a movie was just a huge relief… It was very emotional.’

In the leaked audio, Tom is heard branding the rule-breakers ‘motherf****rs’ and warned ‘if he sees it again, they’re f***ing gone’.

He also said: ‘We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us, because they believe in us and what we’re doing.’
