Teofimo Lopez Sr. Wants His Son to Fight Josh Taylor in England: ‘I Want to Take Him Out in His Hometown’

Lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is one of the rising superstars of the sport. The undefeated American has risen to the top of the division and has no plans of stopping. Now, his father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr., has given an update on the champion’s future.

‘The Takeover’ will face his IBF mandatory George Kambosos Jr. on June 19. However, the 23-year-old has stressed that he will knock out the Australian within three rounds, and make the bigger fights possible. In addition, Teofimo Lopez Sr. has now given his take on his son’s move.

The trainer and father of the 16-0 boxer spoke to The Boxing Social on YouTube and suggested Lopez might move up to super-lightweight to face current champion, Josh Taylor. He said,

“That’s what I want. I would like to face Josh Taylor in England. That’s what I want, you know. I want to take him out in his hometown. Show the world what my son is made out of.”

Thus, with this comment, Teofimo Lopez Sr. showed that he is confident his son can beat the champions of the higher divisions. Moreover, it revealed that they have no plans of facing the other names in the division.

Teofimo Lopez Sr. predicts the Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez fight

If Lopez is to face the champion in the higher weight class, he will have his work cut out for him. Taylor faces Jose Ramirez for the undisputed title on May 22. However, Lopez Sr. has given his take on the highly anticipated bout.

The trainer said, “I think Josh Taylor has a… He’s more of craftier, he’s a better boxer, better fighter. Ramirez is more like, a little more hungrier and throws a lot of punches. But I think that, I think that styles make fights and I think Josh Taylor is going to win this fight.”

Therefore, this comment from the American explained why he wants Taylor. If Lopez can get past his next fight and beat Taylor, it would give him the four belts in two separate weight classes. Moreover, it would be a huge statement to the boxing world.

However, given the excitement in the lightweight division and the unfinished business with Devin Haney, it looks unlikely that Lopez will move up so soon.
