‘This is Absolutely Insane’- Daniel Cormier Trashes The Judges of UFC 262 for Chandler vs Oliveira Fight

Newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira got the better of Michael Chandler via TKO inside two rounds to capture the belt. Although the match lasted a mere 19 seconds into the second round, there was an intense action in between that kept people watching the fight on their toes.

In the end, it was a left-hand jab that ended the stay of Chandler in the ring. However, the match was not only about striking; it had superior groundwork too for display. Something which the judges seemed to miss while rating.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier took to Twitter and vented his frustration on the same as he tagged scoresheet from three judges.

Cormier said, “This is absolutely insane, while Chandler did win the round, Charles had the back and landed some shots.

“The judging last night was bad, there seems to be no value in ground control anymore. Vivian got to the mount and controlled, attempted sub, and still lost the round,” he concluded.

The scorecard showed all three judges namely Chris Lee, Sal D’Amato, and Marcos Rosales giving Chandler 10 and bestowing Oliveira with 8.

Oliveira used his groundwork to full effect to negate a surging Chandler pushing for the final blow. He even held the former Bellator lightweight in the guillotine lock for a while.

Daniel Cormier points out the mistake Michael Chandler made at UFC 262

‘DC’ appeared for an interview where he pointed out the mistake Chandler made. He said, “You know honestly every time on the feet in round one he was hurting Charles Oliveira. I even made mention of it on the broadcast. I said if I’m Chandler, I’m letting him up because Oliveira was backing up.”

He further said that Oliveira made some adjustments and constantly moved forward in the second round. Completely different from what he was doing earlier in the first round. “He took the center of the Octagon, put Chandler on his heels, and landed that beautiful left hook,” he concluded.

The win has set Oliveira (31-8) for a possible clash between either Dustin Poirier or Conor McGregor as the latter two will battle it out at UFC 264. Meanwhile, Chandler could be heading towards a fight with Justin Gaethje or Islam Makhachev or even a distant possibility with Tony Ferguson (who lost to Beneil Dariush).
