Ed Sheeran might be gearing up to drop some new music, a teasing Instagram post from him suggests.

The 30-year-old singer has been enjoying an extended break away from the spotlight since becoming a first-time father to Lyra last August with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, 29, and only posts sporadically.

Now the best-selling artist has taken to social media to share a photo of himself, from the back, sitting on a wall with his guitar.

Most exciting is the photo’s accompanying caption: ‘Somthings cookin [sic]’’.

Fans have already leapt to comment all over Ed’s latest update.

One commented: ‘Omg 😱 News is coming! I can’t wait!!!!’.

Another gushed: ‘IVE [sic] NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED OMG OMG’.

Earlier this month it was announced that Ed was joining the line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which is a virtual event again this year, and due to take place May 28 to 31.

The announcement promised ‘brand new sets’ by all of its artists, so could it be that Ed is ready to share new tracks from his time away?

This event would certainly be the way to do it, as well as delight fans who have patiently been waiting for new music from him since 2019, when he released No.6 Collaborations Project, featuring songs with the likes of Khalid, Stormzy, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello and Cardi B.

He’d also just finished his mammoth, record-breaking Divide tour.

Ed was spotted last month out and about (and dressed as a vampire, obviously), seemingly filming a new music video, in yet another indication of him being busy with new projects.

It does seem that if you add (or should we say Plus? Sorry…) these clues together, you could easily end up with a new album, which many speculate will be called Minus or Subtract, in keeping with Ed’s previous theme for his albums released in 2011, 2014 and 2017.
