Innocent series 2: Plot, cast, channel, time, trailer and everything you need to know
There’s another dose of gripping drama heading to our screens, with the second series of Innocent coming to ITV.
The first instalment of the acclaimed series centred on David Collins, played by Lee Ingleby, who had spent the seven years in jail for the murder of his wife, Tara.
After being acquitted of the crime on a technicality, he set out to prove his innocence.
However, following the events of the first season, the show is focusing on a brand new mystery, with the drama bringing us on a completely separate storyline.
Series two will feature ‘new characters’ and a ‘new story’ with an ‘extremely twisty plot’, according to ITV.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new series – make sure to read our review of series 2 here.
What is the plot of Innocent series 2?
Series two will tell a new standalone story. However, just as in the first series, the focus is placed on a character who is released unexpectedly from prison and forced to rebuild their life.
The new episodes tell the story of schoolteacher Sally Wright, played by Katherine Kelly. She becomes embroiled in a scandal after being accused of having an affair with her 16-year old pupil, Matty Taylor.
Things take a dark turn after Matt is stabbed with a broken bottle, and Sally finds herself convicted of murder after coming under suspicion.
New evidence clears her name, but not her reputation, and she is released from prison. The series then shows Sally attempting to pick up the pieces, which the police try to find the killer still at large.
Who is in the cast of Innocent series 2?
Katherine Kelly, who is known for her roles in Criminal, Happy Valley and Cheat, leads the cast as Sally.
Marcella star Jamie Bamber (Marcella) also stars as her on-screen husband, Sam, with the pair separating following Sally’s imprisonment.
The series also stars the likes of Game of Thrones’ Michael Yare, Line of Duty’s Poppy Miller, Press’s Priyanga Burford, The Stranger’s Shaun Dooley, Our Girl’s Amy-Leigh Hickman, Silent Witness’s Laura Rollins and Gentleman Jack’s Lucy Black.
Katherine said: ‘I’m thrilled to be working on this complex and thrilling drama by Matt Arlidge and Chris Lang. I look forward to bringing the mix of Sally’s fragility and quiet strength to life.’
Is there a trailer for Innocent series 2?
ITV recently unveiled the promo clip for the new episodes, which promises just as much intrigue and mystery as the first series.
‘Five years ago I was convicted of a dreadful that I did not commit,’ Sally says, tearfully addressing reporters outside of court in the clip.
The footage also shows Sally attempting to put together her life again, while police look to find a killer who is ‘still out there’.
What is the release date of Innocent series 2?
Innocent series two begins tonight at 9pm on ITV. The series then continues nightly at 9pm until its final episode on Thursday.
