“It’s My Personal Hope”- Cody Rhodes Hints at Possible AEW Live Show in India

AEW has successful grown as serious competition to WWE, forcing the NXT brand off Wednesday nights to Tuesdays, and making huge viewership leaps over the last few weeks. As the steady growth of the company moves forward, the promotion is naturally getting a lot more eyes towards its product.

While the American market is a primary concern for Tony Khan and his men, the future looks bright for AEW especially since it has recently been attracting the attention of the huge Indian audience, a lot of whom are avid followers of WWE. 

Seeing a lot of known names like Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Sting, Cody Rhodes, and the like, Indian fans are tuning in to watch Dynamite, now more than ever since AEW has a clear path on Wednesdays as well as the fact that it uploads a lot of its content on YouTube. 

However, the lack of public streaming options holds AEW down when it comes to India, not to mention the massive difference in show timings. With its growing success in the viewership market, a possible AEW show in India may just get the promotion the push it needs.

In a recent post on Twitter, AEW Executive Vice President and Wrestler Cody Rhodes confirmed plans to someday have a live show in India and revealed that the Nightmare Factory (training center) is working with Indian wrestlers.

AEW has a lot to offer to a hungry market of potential viewers

WWE has a very good running in India in terms of a fanbase. However, different show days could convince fans to also watch AEW’s promising content that inarguably delivers on everything WWE lacks, mostly due to its non-PG freedom. 

The fluidity in storyline crossovers with other promotions also keeps AEW a mixed bag. Dethroning WWE may be out of the question due to the massive global stardom a lot of its Superstars have. However, AEW can grow and build on its advantages rather than dwell on its disadvantages to really reach that audience. 

The main obstacle for AEW is streaming. Cody Rhodes may be able to make the live show happen, but WWE has a very good deal with Sony over streaming rights, something that may be out of AEW’s reach. That is something Tony Khan will have to work on before considering that bold expansion but for now, the promotion aims to consolidate the 1 million viewership mark weekly.
