Teofimo Lopez Sr. Says George Kambosos Jr. Would Have Never Seen $2 Million in His Career

The face of the lightweight division, Teofimo Lopez is all set to put his brilliance to the test against George Kambosos Jr. The duo will go toe-to-toe against each other on June 19 in a massive lightweight title unification bout. This will be Lopez’s first prime title defense, wherein he’ll look to retain his 135-pound belts.

‘The Takeover’s father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr. is charged up for this fight. In fact, in an interview with Boxing Social, he launched some thunderous verbal shots on Kambosos Jr.,

He said, “Kambosos is getting $2 million for this fight. You know we can’t give him step-side money. I don’t know what step-side money is from $2 million. So, this fight is gonna happen. We’re gonna make somebody really happy. A guy that maybe would have never seen that kind of money in his career. “So we’re going to give him the opportunity, and the chance to take all the belts from us.”

 

Triller won the purse bids for the Lopez vs Kambosos Jr. fight. Given the size of Triller’s successful bid, both pugilists will take home massive guaranteed paychecks.

Although George Kambosos Jr. has hung around the lightweight picture for a while, he has stayed out of the limelight. Teofimo Lopez is definitely the biggest opponent for the Australian boxer. Hence, this bout will result in the latter’s biggest payday for obvious reasons.

In his last fight, Lopez claimed a sensational win. He beat the staunch Vasyl Lomachenko and cemented the beginning of the Lopez era at lightweight. With that, he even set himself up for fights with the other undefeated stalwarts. George Kambosos Jr is the first to cross the champion’s path.
