Andy Murray Adds Another Event to Boost Wimbledon Championships 2021 Preparations
Former British world number one and three-time grand slam champion Andy Murray is all set to enter the Nottingham Challenger tournament that takes place from 5th of June.
Having announced his withdrawal from the French Open, the Brit seems determined to compete at the highest level on the grass-court season this year.
The former world number one played at the Italian Open last week, where he accepted a wild-card to enter the tournament. He teamed up with Liam Broady and won the opening round doubles’ match ;the duo lost in the pre-quarterfinals.

While it was initially speculated that the Brit will play singles at Rome, Murray later informed his intention to not push his body too much as he wasn’t fully fit to play on the red turf.
Now, Murray’s focus is entirely on the grass-court season. He has already signed up to play the Queen’s Club Championships. With the addition of the Nottingham Challenger, the calendar seems perfect for the Brit to make a solid comeback at the Wimbledon Championships.
However, Andy’s fitness has been an issue of concern for his team. After striving hard in his comeback, the Brit won the European Open in 2019, by defeating Stan Wawrinka in three sets. But, Murray has been struggling to maintain consistency on the ATP tour.

Ever since Murray announced that he had to take some time off tennis to focus on his hip injury in 2017, there were numerous obstacles for the Brit and he overpowered all of them with immense grit and determination.
Coming back to the Nottingham Challenger, Liam Broady also signed for the tournament alongside Andy Murray. The duo might play doubles in this event as well. It looks as if the Brit has a well-structured plan laid for success at Wimbledon this year.
The updated players list for the event will be released next week. Also, there is a WTA 250 event which takes place simultaneously along with the men’s event. The women’s entry list for Nottingham will be released next Thursday.
