Anthony Joshua doesn’t seem bothered about his undisputed fight against Tyson Fury falling apart from the brink of confirmation.
He has remained silent throughout the fight’s buildup and has seemed focused on his boxing drills. ‘AJ’ vowed to retain his active training camp, and let his promoter handle all the contractual works.
Per reports, former WBC titlist Deontay Wilder has won the arbitrary case regarding his trilogy bout against Tyson Fury. Thus, the law has mandated him a shot at the ‘The Gypsy King’ before Anthony Joshua. The news has disheartened several fans and boxing pundits.
Nevertheless, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has appeared positive in this controversial situation. He has also revealed the unified champion’s reaction to the whole issue.
Speaking via Matchroom Boxing, Hearn said, “AJ’s has been there, he has seen this. He has had disappointment. I mean you look back to the Jarrell Miller fight. You know, with that failing three-four weeks before.
“With the Pulev fight, the first one falling through probably 10 days before. And he just said to me, listen go and do your work. He [Anthony Joshua] said you are the man to take care of it. Over to you, I’ll be in the gym. Let me know.”
Top Rank could have stopped Deontay Wilder’s sudden intervention by paying him off to step aside. However, CEO Bob Arum has denied doing so and has already been vocal about confirming Fury vs Wilder 3.
With all that’s gone down, what does the current heavyweight title picture look like?
Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder- A total mess
Deontay Wilder apparently didn’t demand any money to clear the path for Fury vs Joshua. He seems serious about getting a shot at his lost WBC crown and might topple the race over Joshua to bag the fight.
Per ESPN, Bob Arum has already confirmed booking the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas with a tentative date of July 24th for the final edition of the trilogy saga.
If Tyson Fury were to face Wilder in July, he wouldn’t step up to face Anthony Joshua in August. Therefore, the unification fight would certainly get derailed.
Moreover, Deontay Wilder’s win over Fury could shatter all the plans, consequently earning him a fight against AJ instead. The trail goes on, as Anthony Joshua also has his mandatory contenders for the WBO strap.
Hence, the heavyweight title picture is an absolute mess at this point with several possibilities on board.
