Rockstar has put a date on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online, but it’ll be a longer wait than initially hoped.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released on November 11, 2021 as both the original single-player campaign and GTA Online come to the new consoles.

Rockstar Games had previously only said that the game would be released in the second half of the year, so this isn’t a delay – just on the later side of what fans would’ve hoped.

There’s sill no details on how exactly the new versions will differ from the existing ones, with Rockstar currently more interested in promoting the new summer updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online, which Rockstar promise will include ‘special benefits for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop’.

What these special benefits will be is unknown but Rockstar has also hinted that there will be ‘more fun surprises’ to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of GTA 3 ‘including some specifically for GTA Online players’.

That seems to imply that some of the additions will be for the single-player but there’s still no hint at any kind of remaster of the original game, as some fans had begun to hope.

The new versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be the third generation in a row that the game will be sold brand new at full price, an unprecedented feat for what is the best-selling traditional video game ever made (incredibly, it was still the number one selling game in April).

Or at least the assumption is that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version will be full price, since Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that either.

What they have said is that a cheaper, standalone version of GTA Online will be released for both next gen platforms, with the PlayStation 5 version, but not Xbox, being free until February 2022.
