Nicki Minaj shared her mugshot on social media from her arrest in 2003 while reflecting on how she’s grown from the incident.

The Starships rapper posted a photo of her mugshot taken 18 years ago to Twitter on Monday along with a message detailing the incident.

It took place before Nicki, 38, found fame as a rapper and she hadn’t properly spoken about the arrest until now.

In the now-deleted post, she wrote as reported by HipHop DX and Hot New Hip Hop: ‘It took me years to be able to look at things like this. Criminal possession with the intent to use. I did use it tho. This is so inspiring to look back. The girl was leaking blood and spent days in the hospital [sic].’

Nicki continued: ‘The word on the street was that I was gonna b deported. I was so scared. LOL. I was “on the run”. I rlly thought I was in a ghetto movie.

‘I hid my car and went to stay with my Aunt in Brooklyn chile. Bwahahahaaaa. #Growth [sic].’

Jay Z once used Nicki’s mugshot on his and Beyonce’s On The Run II tour in 2018, broadcasting the image on stage to thousands of fans. It featured in a montage of other mugshots of rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Diddy and Meek Mill.

Nicki seemed to approve of Jay Z using the photo at the time and shared an image of Jay Z beside the mugshot on-stage, alongside the caption: ‘When Jay asks for your mug shot for his tour backdrop.’

Since releasing her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty to streaming services last Friday, Nicki has been in a sharing mood.

In a letter on her website, Nicki revealed that she spent her maternity leave after giving birth to her son in September binge-watching The Crown

‘My darlings, as I complete this album & documentary, I am also obsessing over The Crown on Netflix,’ she wrote.

The rapper continued: ‘The great Kenya Barris recommended I watch it & I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s safe to say I’ve watched every single episode of every single season at least 5 times each. Lol. Yikes. I know.’

‘I can’t get enough of Claire Foy’s perfect face. I want to eat it. It just does the right thing in every single scene. Lmao. I also can’t believe how much I enjoy Gillian Anderson’s portrayal of Margaret Thatcher. Seeing as tho I’m such a Meryl StreepINISTA.’

Nicki then addressed the recent death of her father, Robert Maraj, who was killed in a suspected hit and run in February.
