‘Someone You Can Consider to Go To’: Jayson Tatum Mentions Kobe Bryant’s Influence in His Career

Ever since Brad Stevens took over the reins from Doc Rivers, he has steadily built a young, challenging team out in Boston. With the likes of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kemba Walker, the Celtics have finished seventh this season.

The franchise will face the Wizards in the play-in tournament to reach the playoffs. Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum is integral for the team’s chances to make it to the playoffs.

Tatum joined on The Woj Pod Podcast to speak about a lot of topics related to his career. In the meantime, he also brought up the influence of Kobe Bryant in his career.

“I still work on it today as a part of my craft as a part of something I do every day, and it has become something that you know someone you can consider go to. I think once you put so much work into something and see it translate to the floor, and just feel so comfortable with it.

“Different guys do it different ways. I think for me just with my height, I know at any given point I can go to that and with the game on the line, late shot clock, I just know using that with my size been able to get my shot off, it is something I just feel extremely comfortable with,” said Tatum.

Since the league resumed after the All-star break, Tatum has put some incredible numbers on the court.

Boston Celtics hoping for a spark from Tatum

Tatum is the only player since Larry Bird to register 28 points per game after the All-star break. Likewise, he also managed two 50 point games this season. Despite being a savvy scorer, his movement with the ball is stupendous. While a lot of players take additional steps to beat a player, Tatum beats the man with one clever movement.

Averaging over 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals which makes him a complete player on both ends of the court.

It is clear to see why he is their go-to-scorer but having 60 points and no turnovers is some feat. With a 32.5 inch vertical, his drives to the rim is incredible.

The Boston Celtics need him to be fit for their chances in the playoffs this season. Jaylen Brown’s wrist injury has derailed their plans this season. However, with Tatum in their ranks, time will tell whether the Celtics can pick themselves up and push for a strong run in the playoffs.
