Toto Wolff Admits 2021 F1 Title Fight Causing Mercedes Major Resource Allocation Problem

With a budget cap already in place and new regulations coming in next year, allocating resources has become an even trickier task in the world of F1. As such, many teams have decided to focus on the next year instead, but that decision is not so easy to make when you’re the frontrunner in the ongoing season’s title fight. And that is the problem Toto Wolff is facing at the moment.

The Silver Arrows have been in exceptional form since the season kicked off, making it to the podium every time. Mercedes hope they can extract the most out of the car to get the results they want for the title. Monaco is the next race on the Formula One calendar, and the Brackley-based squad hopes to put on a stellar performance that sees them lead the championship.

Wolff admits to the challenges Mercedes might face for this year’s title

A team like Mercedes cannot choose to let go of the current season like teams like Haas have. The Silver Arrows are engaged in a fierce championship battle with Red Bull, and thus, they need to give this season every bit of attention it demands.

However, they also need to secure their long-term future in the sport. Therefore, they cannot choose to forget about the regulations coming in next year entirely.

As quoted by GP Fans, Toto said, “Always a concern because getting the balance right between the current year and next year is a tricky situation every year.”

“But this time around it is particularly difficult because there is such a big regulation change for next year. It’s a constant dialogue inside of the team as to how much resource is switched over and when,” Wolff concluded.

Can the Silver Arrows achieve their eighth title this season?

The Brackley-based squad are the reigning champions and will look to add another title to their cabinet. The Silver Arrows lead the championship with 141 points and are being chased by rivals, Red Bull.
