Bradford fire – Video shows huge flames erupt from factory blaze as homes evacuated, school shut and blackouts hit

EXTRAORDINARY footage shows huge flames erupting from a factory blaze which caused homes to be evacuated, a school to be shut and widespread power blackouts today.

The inferno sent massive plumes of thick smoke billowing into the air after it broke out at a furniture factory in Bradford in the early hours of this morning.

Residents reported waking to a loud bang in the middle of the night, and around 30 were urgently evacuated from their flats.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire has spread to an area around the same size as a football pitch.

Fire crews first received a call about the blaze at 2.45am this morning.

A spokesperson said: “Power to the building has been isolated as part of the firefighting operations and power in the local area may also be affected.

“A number of residents from a nearby flats have been evacuated.

“Other local residents in the Shearbridge area are advised to keep doors and windows closed. The public is also asked to avoid the area if possible.”


Eighteen fire engines and crews from more than 20 different stations were trying to douse the blaze.

Four schools in the area were affected by the fire, with one having to close.

Around 150 homes in Bradford were left without power, with the local council restoring power by around 9.30am.
