The MTV Awards definitely didn’t hold back on the shady moments, at one point mourning the end of Ellen DeGeneres’ ‘reign of terror’ in a spoof ‘in memoriam’ segment.

The 63-year-old recently announced the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show after 19 seasons, following accusations that the programme cultivated a ‘toxic’ working environment.

Following her announcement, MTV Awards host Nikki Glaser took aim at the presenter in her savage montage, which referenced some of the funniest, most bizarre, and shocking moments in unscripted TV.

‘I’d now like to take a sombre slash awkward moment to acknowledge all that we’ve lost in the world of unscripted entertainment this year,’ she began, turning to a screen emblazoned with ‘in memoriam’, in the style of the famous Oscars segment.

The montage featured the likes of ‘Giannina’s shoe,’ when Love Is Blind star Giannina Gibelli was seen running away from her wedding, and ‘Scott Disick dating age-appropriate women.’

‘Ellen’s reign of terror’ was dated 2003 to 2021 to finish up the clip, with the crowd screaming at the awkward moment.

Comic Nikki went on to take a second for the cancelled reality shows of the past, with scores of axed programmes making the list.

‘You may be gone, but you will also be forgotten,’ she quipped.

Ellen announced the end of her chat show this month, following accusations of a toxic workplace.

She had previously sent a letter to apologise to staff, and addressed the claims on the show, saying: ‘I learned that things happened here that never should have happened.

‘I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.

‘I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power and I realised that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.’

She has insisted the scandal isn’t the reason behind the show coming to an end, saying she doesn’t feel ‘challenged’ by it anymore.

‘If it was why I was quitting, I would have not come back this year. I really did think about not coming back, because it was devastating,’ she said.

‘It started with attacks on me and attacking everything that I stand for and believe in and built my career around … I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy.’
