Joe Burrow Injury Update: Doctor Makes Big Statement Regarding QB’s Hopes of Starting in Week 1
The 2020 NFL Draft had Cincinnati Bengals fans brimming with joy. They’d landed themselves a stellar young quarterback in 2019 Heisman winner Joe Burrow.
The quarterback from LSU entered the league with high expectations. And it’s safe to say that Burrow delivered. Until of course he picked up a nasty knee injury.
Out since November 22, 2020, the quarterback’s last game for the Bengals was against the Washington Football Team. A game his side lost 9-20.
Tearing both his ACL and MCL as well as damaging his PCL and meniscus, the QB underwent surgery in December. Since then Burrow has been battling to make it back in time for next season. And for Bengals fans, there is some good news.
Joe Burrow set to return for Week 1 clash
The Bengals open their 2021 campaign against the Minnesota Vikings. A clash that now almost definitely will feature Joe Burrow.
According to Dr Neal ElAttrache, the man who oversaw the quarterback’s surgery and rehab programme, Burrow is on track to feature in the Bengals’ opening tie in 2021.
“He’s on track for full go for start of the season,” ElAttrache told ESPN. “He has been doing all the work. He’s worked his tail off and been an amazingly mature participant in his recovery. He currently is focused and great to work with.”
ElAttrache said that the quarterback is constantly being evaluated regarding his rehab progress. And so far, Burrow is ahead of schedule.
“We just had him tested out here with a high-tech video and biomechanical evaluation and he was ahead of where we anticipated and well into the return to performance phase of his recovery,” ElAttrache said.
“With him already performing this way, it’s ‘all systems go’ for the start of the season,” he added.
Before the unfortunate injury stopped Burrow in his tracks, the QB managed to play 10 games all while completing 65.3% of his passes. The quarterback also threw for 2,688 yards which included 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Now returning from injury, Burrow will look to reunite with his LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase who was drafted by the Bengals franchise with the 5th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The wide receiver and the QB lit up the college circuit back in 2019 and will hope that that telepathic chemistry they share will translate at the highest level of the sport as well.
