Kyle Larson Reflects on Finishing 2nd Behind Teammate Alex Bowman

At the Dover International Speedway, the Hendrick Motorsports team ran riot. Such was their dominance that they finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

While Alex Bowman triumphed, Kyle Larson finished second, to his disappointment. In all honesty, he had every right to be upset, as he dominated the first 2 stages.

That lasted until the final round of pit stops caused him to lose out in the final 100 laps. When Aric Almirola crashed out, Alex Bowman dove into the pit road first. Needless to say, that pit stop was what made the difference in securing victory for the #48 driver.

“I honestly don’t know if there was anything I could have done differently to win the race after we came out second on pit road. I would choose the top (lane) behind him, get to second every time,” Larson said.

“Maybe I could have chosen the bottom on (the) restart, but I still don’t think I would have stayed with him until he was inside or anything like that. Probably would have fell back to third or so.”

Kyle Larson looked like the favorite to win at Dover

Without a doubt, Larson probably deserved to win as he led the highest number of laps. Unfortunately, once Alex Bowman hit the front after a well-timed pit stop, he could not make inroads on his teammate.

Later on, another caution flew because of debris on the track, though Bowman and Larson did not pit again.

Larson insisted that he was not going to be a gentleman for Bowman just because he was a teammate. According to him, he was not looking to try to intentionally wreck anybody.

Finally, Bowman, Larson, Elliott and Byron created HMS history with their first 1-2-3-4 finish. Additionally, Hendrick Motorsports is one win away from tying with Petty Enterprises for the most wins by an organization.
