Innocent returned for a second series on Monday, May 17 and viewers were sucked right back into the gripping whodunnit nature of the drama starring ex-Corrie star Katherine Kelly and Law and Order: UK star Jamie Bamber.

Although the new season features a brand new story, it’s based on the same set up as the first season – a character is released unexpectedly from a lengthy prison sentence, and must rebuild their life.

But where exactly is season two of Innocent filmed?

Where is Innocent filmed?

Unlike series one, which was filmed on the south coast, series two is set in the Lake District.

Filming for the series took place in both the Lake District and Ireland.

Executive producer, Jeremy Gwilt, said of the first season: ‘We had some fabulous actors and a story set in an attractive world on the south coast. This time we have the Lake District, which is a great place to set a story like this.

It’s achingly beautiful and yet it’s a wild and unpredictable landscape.’

Speaking about how important it was for her character to physically reconnect with the landscape of Keswick, Katherine Kelly said: ‘The show is really about freedom and its importance.’

‘With it being set in the Lake District it was really helpful visually, because she’s outside a lot.

‘We have her sat by windows, because it’s not your choice when you can go outside when you’re in prison.

‘We really tried to get that across. The windows are down in the car and she gets out a lot, just that thing of the senses being ignited again. With that prehistoric landscape of the Lake District, it’s such an easy way to plug back into the earth when you’re out in that kind of terrain.’

Innocent continues tonight at 9pm on ITV. You can catch up on ITV Hub.
