Coco Gauff, the young American player, who reached the semi-finals at the recently concluded Italian Open, is continuing her great run on clay-courts this year. She reached the quarter-finals of the Emilia-Romagna Open after defeating the local favorite Camila Giorgi in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

The American player has shown great improvement in her game over the past year. At the Italian Open last week, Gauff defeated top players like Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka in her road to semi-finals. At Parma, Gauff will face compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the quarter-finals. Anisimova had a phenomenal run at the 2019 French Open, where she defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Simona Halep before losing to the eventual champion, Ashleigh Barty in the semi-finals.

While Gauff and Anisimova didn’t play on the WTA tour before, they contested against each other in the finals of US Open Juniors in 2017. It was Anisiomova who dismantled Gauff in straight sets.
