Avoiding Contact With Lewis Hamilton “Goes Both Ways” – Verstappen

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have been pushing each other to the limit so far this season. The fight for the title can get heated at times, but Verstappen has stated that he avoids contact with the seven-time champion this season. The 23-year-old believes that these topics are only meant for clickbait and nothing more.

Heading into the fifth race of the season in Monaco, the Dutchman sits in second place in the standings with 80 points while the Mercedes driver leads the table with 94 points. As Hamilton looks to extend his championship lead, Hamilton aims to get his second race win of the year at a track that has historically favored Red Bull.

Given the nature of the track at Monte Carlo, drivers need to more careful than usual and avoid contact as much as they can. The street circuit is quite narrow, and one mistake is enough to make things go wrong.

Max Verstappen hopes to avoid contact with Hamilton

At the press conference held on Wednesday, Verstappen said, as quoted by RaceFans, “Avoiding contact, I think it goes both ways.”

He added, “So we have done well, that’s true. We race hard, we avoided the contact, both sides. So let’s hope we can keep doing that and keep being on track and race hard against each other.” Verstappen concluded.

Verstappen tired of the media building tension between him and Hamilton

With the kind of intense battles Lewis and Max are engaged in this year, it is highly likely that they will come in contact with each other on the track. As such, the media has tried to get both drivers to comment on it, which Verstappen obviously has a problem with.

He said, “I honestly don’t know what to say any more about these things. We never try to crash, do we? So it’s just to make a few interesting headlines like that.

“I guess it will have a bit more viewers when you say it’s a matter of time, then instead of saying we had some great races so far, people will, of course, clickbait that more.”

The Dutchman isn’t the only one who feels this way. His partner for the pre-race press conference this week, Sebastian Vettel also feels that the media takes crashes a bit too lightly.

Now, we head to the Monaco Grand Prix, which is one of the most exciting and challenging races on the calendar. But what will be the talking point, the race or the rivalry between Max and Lewis? We shall soon find out.
